This Cookie Notice explains how Egoist Machines, Inc. ("Egoist," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies in connection with ego.ist and any other website that we own or control and which posts or links to this Cookie Notice (collectively, the "Sites"). For more information about how we collect, use, and share personal information, see our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies

Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies serve different purposes, like keeping you signed in, remembering your preferences, and helping us understand how a site is being used.

Our Sites use both session cookies (which expire once you close your browser) and persistent cookies (which stay on your device until they expire or you delete them). We use first-party cookies, served directly by us, and a small number of third-party cookies served by service providers on our Sites.

The cookies we use

We do not use advertising cookies, social media cookies, or any cookies for interest-based advertising. The cookies we use fall into the categories below.

These cookies are necessary for the Sites to work, so they do not require your consent.

Other technologies

Browser web storage

We use local storage and session storage in your browser for similar purposes as cookies, including to remember referral information, reservation state, signup source, design-related preferences, and a copy of your cookie-banner consent choices. Your browser settings let you clear this storage.

Session replay

We use PostHog session recording to watch replays of how visitors interact with the Sites, such as clicks, movement, and scrolling, which helps us diagnose usability problems. In the EU and UK, session recording runs only after you choose "Accept all" in the cookie banner. Choosing "Analytics only" enables analytics without session recording. Elsewhere, session recording runs unless you reject it.

Cookieless visit counting

Public passport pages count visits without cookies. We keep a salted hash of your IP address, with the salt rotated daily so the hash cannot be linked across days, and we prune stored hashes on a rolling basis, normally within 3 days. We also set a session-storage flag whose only purpose is to avoid counting the same visit twice.

Your choices

  • Cookie banner. Where the banner is shown, you can accept all, accept analytics only, or reject analytics and session-recording cookies when you first visit the Sites. Your choice is stored in a 180-day cookie and in browser local storage until you clear it.
  • Blocking cookies in your browser. Most browsers let you remove or reject cookies through their settings. If you disable cookies, parts of the Sites may not work properly. For example, you may need to sign in every time you visit.
  • Clearing browser storage. Your browser provides tools to clear local storage and session storage.

We do not sell personal information or use cookies for targeted advertising, so there is no advertising opt-out to manage on the Sites.

Changes

Information about the cookies we use may be updated from time to time. When we make changes, we will post the updated notice here and revise the date above.
