How do I use Meta Muse
Set up Meta Muse and try a useful first task. Check its research, review actions and learn how AI Passport can help reuse your preferences.
Meta Muse is a personal AI agent designed to work on tasks across connected services. You can ask it to research something or take on work that continues after you close the app.
Start with a job you can check before letting it contact anyone or spend money. Comparing venues for a weekend gathering is a useful first attempt. “Sort out my life” leaves rather more room for interpretation.
1. Open the official Muse service
Start from Meta’s Muse announcement and follow its product link. The September announcement describes US rollout through the website and supported mobile apps. Check the current access offered to your account.
Complete the account setup shown. If it offers connections to other apps, choose them for the job you are doing. A comparison of public venues does not need your entire inbox.
Before supplying work documents, check whether your organisation permits that service for those documents. You can learn how Muse works using public information first.
2. Give Muse a task with a recognisable result
Try a request like this, replacing the details with your own.
Find three venues for twelve people near central Manchester on 14 November. Keep the room hire under £300. We need somewhere quiet enough for a workshop. Compare the options using current sources. Distinguish confirmed information from questions we would need to ask. Do not contact venues or make a booking.
The date and budget rule out unsuitable options. The instruction about a quiet room also needs evidence. A photograph of an empty restaurant does not establish what it sounds like on Saturday afternoon.
If Muse asks a relevant question, answer it. If it requests an unrelated connection, ask what it needs from that service before granting access.
3. Check what it found
Open the sources behind the important details. Check whether the quoted price includes required charges and whether the room can accommodate your group.
A venue’s usual capacity does not establish availability on your date. If the website does not publish availability, the result should say that confirmation is needed. An honest gap is more useful than an invented booking slot.
Compare the options against your original request. If a room meets the price limit but has no evidence about noise, keep that uncertainty visible. You can still shortlist it and prepare a question.
4. Review any proposed action
You might next ask Muse to draft an enquiry to your preferred venue. Read the recipient and message before authorising sending. A request to compare options does not give it an unlimited mandate to organise the event.
Meta’s security explanation describes a separate Sentinel system that reviews external operations. That is Meta’s account of its controls, not a guarantee that the agent cannot make mistakes.
The same article distinguishes the current Muse Secure VM from the planned Confidential VM. Do not assume the latter is generally available. It also describes a training opt-out in Muse settings. Check that setting if you do not want eligible interactions used for model training; it answers a different question from which apps Muse can access.
Bring useful preferences with AI Passport
If you keep explaining your planning preferences to different assistants, AI Passport gives you a separate place to maintain them. It holds selected personal context that connected assistants can use with your permission.
You could save a preference for venues near public transport, then reuse it for another trip. In Passport’s normal review flow, check the proposed wording before approval. An assistant also needs permission to read the relevant category.
AI Passport supports a Muse connection through its MCP connector. If your Muse account supports adding the MCP connector, use that route and complete the consent shown. Do not assume an existing ChatGPT connection automatically connects Muse.
If the route is unavailable in your account, retrieve the preference through a supported connected assistant and copy only the relevant detail into your Muse request. That creates a copy in another service, so share deliberately.
Keep the next step small
Once Muse produces a useful comparison, you have a sensible basis for trying another task. Add a connection when it supplies information that task needs.
If you give it continuing work, include when the responsibility ends and where you want updates. Check the task and access controls after the event. Closing the conversation is not a reliable way to establish that every responsibility has stopped.
