Using AI Passport to prepare for health appointments

Prepare clearer health appointment questions with AI Passport. Learn what context is useful, how to check summaries and when sensitive information needs protected handling.

AI can help organise the information you want to discuss at a health appointment. It can turn your notes into a clearer agenda and help you put questions into words.

AI Passport can carry selected context into those tasks with your permission. A communication preference may be enough. You do not have to save your medical history to get help preparing questions.

1. Decide what you want help preparing

Choose a task you can check. You could organise questions about a letter from your clinic or put your own observations into date order.

Keep assessment and treatment decisions with the appropriate healthcare professional. An assistant’s well-written explanation does not establish what is causing a symptom.

The NHS appointment guide recommends preparing notes and questions before you attend. An AI tool can help with the wording, while your original records remain available for checking.

If you need urgent help, use the appropriate health service for your location. Do not wait for an AI conversation or a memory request to resolve it.

2. Start with a useful communication preference

You may want unfamiliar medical terms explained in plain language. That preference can help without naming a condition.

Ask a connected assistant to propose the preference in Passport.

Save this to AI Passport as a preference. When helping me prepare health questions, explain unfamiliar terms in plain language and keep unanswered questions visible.

Read the proposal before approving it. It should describe the explanation you want, not draw conclusions about your ability or health.

A permitted assistant can then retrieve the preference in a later conversation. You can use another supported tool without explaining that communication need again.

3. Prepare a short agenda from your notes

Share only the material needed for the task in a service you consider appropriate for it. If you want help ordering questions, that may require little personal detail.

Organise these notes for my appointment. Preserve my dates and uncertainty. Keep my observations separate from questions for the clinician. Do not add a diagnosis or recommend medication changes.

Check the result against your notes. If you wrote that discomfort started after a run, the assistant should not change that into a statement that running caused it.

The same care applies to a clinic letter. Keep the original and compare important wording. A summary should not turn “possible” into “confirmed.”

4. Choose carefully before saving health information

Health information needs a more deliberate decision than a general writing preference. First ask whether you need it saved at all. A private record you consult when necessary may be enough.

If you decide to save sensitive information in Passport, explicitly request protected handling with a short non-sensitive label. Check that the returned proposal uses the protected review flow. Stop if your account or integration does not offer it rather than proceeding as an ordinary memory save.

A request in a prompt is not proof that the protected workflow happened. Inspect the actual result and owner controls.

Anything you have already shared with an assistant is also subject to that service’s handling. Protected storage in Passport cannot remove the same information from an existing ChatGPT or Claude conversation.

5. Update the context after the appointment

Record the healthcare professional’s explanation accurately in the place you normally keep your health information.

If you ask an assistant to organise follow-up actions, compare its version with those instructions. Do not save the assistant’s interpretation as though it were a clinical decision.

Review temporary Passport context afterwards. Remove an unresolved question once it has been answered, or rewrite it to reflect what actually happened.

What benefit should you expect?

A useful result is an accurate agenda you can take to the appointment or a clearer question you feel able to ask.

Passport can make your chosen communication preferences available across permitted assistants. It also gives you a place to review the selected context you want carried forward.

Review which apps have access when the task is finished. Revoking a pass controls future reads under it. Copies already delivered into another service need separate attention there.
